One of the many crafts I loved to do in my teen years was embroidery by hand; I feel it keeps a girl feminine. I hope I’ve done a good job of passing along the joy of embroidery to the younger ones in the family. It’s a great way to improve hand-eye coordination in children.
Here is a page full of free needlework patterns – counted cross stitch, general surface embroidery, stump work, and more. Be respectful of copyrights; most designs are for personal use only. Once you are on the site, be sure to go through the free embroidery patterns category.
If you are new to embroidery or want to brush up on some stitches, see this Free Video Library of Hand Embroidery Stitches. It’s absolutely wonderful. There is even help available in the beginner embroidery section.
